We are independent. We are not the Home Office and we do not book tests. Book yours on GOV.UK.

No ads. Every question is checked against the handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, 3rd edition.

Your score, at a glance

Every score shows 24 squares, one for each question, with a line after square 18. Reach the line and you pass.

How it works

  1. Take a free mock test
No account. The real format. We mark it on our server, so the answers stay hidden until the end.
  2. See your weakest chapter
Your result shows which handbook chapter lost you marks, and the date we last checked it.
  3. Practise it, then sit another mock
Practise one chapter with an explanation after every answer. Then sit a full mock test to see what moved.

What you get

Simply Pass is built for one job: getting you ready for the Life in the UK test.

  • Mock tests like test day
24 questions, 45 minutes, and the pass line at 18. You see your score on 24 squares, so you know at a glance how far you are from the line.
  • Practice by chapter
Work through the five chapters of the handbook one at a time. Short sets, so you can fit a chapter into a lunch break.
  • A short reason for every answer
After each question you see why the answer is right, in plain English. Where the world has moved on since the handbook was printed, the explanation says so.
  • Your weakest chapter
After each mock we show which chapter cost you the most points, and take you straight to practice for it.
  • A date on every set
Each set shows when we last checked it against the handbook. You always know how fresh your practice is.

Five chapters, one handbook

The handbook has five chapters, and the test is based on all of them. Practise them one by one.

  1. The values and principles of the UK
What British life rests on, and what you give and receive as a resident.
  2. What is the UK?
The four nations, Great Britain, and the islands that are not part of the UK.
  3. A long and illustrious history
The longest chapter, from the Romans to the present day.
  4. A modern, thriving society
Religion, customs, sport, arts, leisure and places to know.
  5. The UK government, the law and your role
Parliament, the courts, your rights and life in your community.

Questions people ask

Is Simply Pass part of the Home Office?
No. Simply Pass is an independent practice site. We do not run the test, we do not book it, and we do not speak for the government. You book the real test on gov.uk.
Are your questions the ones in the real test?
No. We write our own questions from the handbook. The real test draws 24 questions that differ for each person, and we have no access to them. Our questions cover the same material in the same style.
Do I need an account to try a free mock?
No. You can take one full free mock without an account and see your result at the end.
How do I know the questions are up to date?
Each set shows the date we last checked it against the handbook. Our answers follow the handbook, because the test is set from it. If a fact has changed since the handbook was printed, the explanation tells you what has changed.
What do I get when I pay?
Every full mock test and every chapter set, with explanations and your weakest chapter after each mock, for £9.99.
Can I practise on my phone?
Yes. Simply Pass works in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and the mock fits a small screen.
What if I fail the real test?
Then our pass guarantee helps. If you passed 10 full mock tests in a row with us during your paid access and then fail the real test, write to us within 30 days of your result and send your result letter or a screenshot. We give you free access until you pass. It is extra practice time, not money back, and it does not affect your legal rights. The full conditions are in our terms.
